If I file for bankruptcy, do I have to go to court?

NJ Bankruptcy Law FAQ

Q) If I file for bankruptcy, do I have to go to court?

A) In most bankruptcy cases, only one (1) court appearance is required. That appearance usually takes place at the “meeting of creditors”. At this meeting, you and your bankruptcy attorney meet with a bankruptcy trustee. The trustee and any creditors who elect to come to the meeting will ask you questions about the bankruptcy forms you completed and your current financial situation.
